The people can’t wait for 100 days, says Syed Saddiq

PETALING JAYA: The people cannot wait 100 days for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s Cabinet to prove themselves, says former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

The Muar MP noted that 732 Covid-19 deaths were recorded within the last two days alone.

“The people cannot afford to wait 100 days. It’ll be logical to wait 100 days if the ministers are different, fresh faces,” he said in a Twitter post.

“But this ‘new Cabinet’ just has the same characters.”

In announcing his Cabinet line-up this morning, Ismail had said every ministry must prove itself within the first 100 days, adding that his ministers must develop short and long-term plans.

He had said his administration had a good mix of experienced ministers and deputy ministers, who he believed could help the country get back on its feet.

In response, netizens took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the prime minister’s “probation period” for the new Cabinet members.

Twitter user @aizatmatlani pointed out that most of those in Ismail’s Cabinet had been serving since March 2020 under the Perikatan Nasional-led government.

“What do you want 100 days for? (The) probation period is way over,” he said.

Similarly, user @cyrilngilah said, “100 days? With the very same Cabinet?” along with laughing emojis. However, he tempered his reaction and agreed to give Ismail’s administration the benefit of the doubt during this time.

Another netizen with the username @paalipyazai wrote: “100 days, he said. Dec 5, 2021. The people will watch and assess.”

Meanwhile, @hfshm_ doubted whether the Cabinet members needed 100 days to prove themselves, especially after the previous “disastrous show”.

User @hisyamghazali91 said there was no need for 100 days when most of the ministers and their deputies were familiar faces.

“The only reliable person in the Cabinet is KJ (Khairy Jamaluddin),” he wrote, to which user @thehiwaga replied by saying that it was “(the) same people but expecting different results”.
