PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has received a report against Registrar of Societies (RoS) director-general Jasri Kasim over allegations of corruption and abuse of power.

According to a source in the know, the allegations against Jasri are linked to the RoS’ decision to change its Aug 6 ruling that the postponement of Umno polls was invalid.

On Monday, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said the RoS found no issue with Umno’s move to postpone party elections.

His statement came less than a month after RoS had ruled that Umno’s decision to postpone party elections by up to 18 months was invalid and had instructed the party to set a new date for the polls as soon as possible.

“The report was lodged by parties who were unhappy with RoS’ latest decision and who believe certain political figures influenced its decision through abuse of power and bribery.”

When contacted, MACC chief Azam Baki confirmed receiving the report but declined further comment.

RoS’ ruling against Umno’s postponement of the party elections had come as a surprise to a number of the party’s leaders who questioned the reason behind what appeared to be an about-turn of an even earlier RoS ruling.

In a letter to Umno on July 19, RoS had said it had no problems with the postponement.
