Tornado tears through PD neighbourhood

PORT DICKSON: A senior citizen was injured when part of the roof of her house was blown away during a mini tornado in Taman Bagan Kurnia, Chuah which led to a ceiling collapse here on Wedneday.

Siti Mariam Abu, 86, was alone at home during the 10am incident, which damaged 10 houses in the area.

The victim’s daughter-in-law, Adilla Yunus, 44, said she and her husband, as well as their children, were out at work when the storm hit the neighbourhood.

She said her mother-in-law sustained a head injury after a section of the ceiling at her house collapsed.

“My husband and I returned home immediately after being told about what had happened. We sent my mother-in-law to the nearby rural clinic for treatment.

“I hope the state government could help us to repair our roof as it would ease our burden,” said Adilla when met at the house.

Chuah assemblyman Michael Yek Diew Ching said the state government, Welfare Department and Port Dickson District Office would extend assistance to the affected residents.

“I will monitor the case and assist the victims of the incident. Based on feedback from residents, this is the first such case to have occurred in the area,” said Yek.
