Sabah govt to give full support in MACC probe involving civil servant
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government will give its full support to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in the investigation involving a state civil servant.
State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong was referring to reports on the arrest of a government staff to assist investigations into crude palm oil tax declaration fraud.
“I am taking it seriously following the case report involving arrests of state civil servants. We will give full cooperation to the MACC.
“I have instructed the state Finance Ministry to scrutinise and improve all systems and procedures that can open up space and opportunities for sales tax declaration forgery activities.”
Earlier today, Sabah MACC officers nabbed a person, with a “Datuk” title, to assist its probe into crude palm oil tax declaration fraud.
A remand application against the 66-year-old suspect is expected to be made at the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. The civil servant is the third to be arrested in the case.
On May 18, MACC had also nabbed a senior government official and also picked up a retiree. The duo were under remand from May 19 until May 25.
Both of them allegedly solicited and accepted bribes amounting to about RM700,000 from a palm oil mill company in return for protecting the forgery of monthly palm oil sales tax declarations to the state Finance Ministry.
