Former diplomat, nabbed on suspicion of growing ganja, released

KUALA LUMPUR: The former diplomat who was detained along with his son on suspicion of cultivating ganja plants in Janda Baik, Pahang was released today.

Police had failed to obtain an extension on the remand against the former diplomat from the Bentong Magistrate’s Court.

Lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, informed that police applied for a second remand order for seven days but was rejected by Magistrate Shahrul Ekhsan Hasim as there was no proof linking his client to any wrongdoings.

The former diplomat, who once served as Malaysia’s ambassador to Indonesia, was arrested on May 21 and remanded for seven days.





The man, bearing the title ‘Datuk’ was nabbed after cops suspected him of cultivating close to 100 ganja plants.

He was remanded until today for investigation under Sections 39B, 6B and 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
