BN to introduce more fresh faces in GE15, says Zahid
KUALA LUMPUR: There is no guarantee that anyone with a party position in Umno will be nominated as a candidate in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Melaka and Johor state elections, where Barisan Nasional fielded mostly fresh faces, showed how the coalition could use the same strategy to ensure its victory in GE15.
Therefore, Zahid said Umno members who hold top positions in either divisions or branches nationwide would not be automatically chosen as a candidate in GE15.
Instead, he said the BN leadership is looking at repeating its success in Melaka and Johor, adding that there is a likelihood of increasing the number of young candidates.
“God willing, we will see more new faces in GE15. The candidates will not only come from those with positions such as division chiefs. This will not be the practice this time.
“Fifty eight 58 per cent of our total registered voters are those aged between 18 and 30. So we must attract them, find out about their opinions, aspirations and wishes.
“Young people are ‘opinion leaders’. We must understand and accept their views because those views are the reality of today’s world.

“There must be different approaches for the youth according to their age. They want security, savings, opportunities, and assets. So, find out about all these and discover whether the youth will vote based on parties or candidates or some other elements,” he told reporters at Menara Dato Onn here today.
Zahid said it was time Umno and BN made efforts to learn and understand the aspirations of all voters.
“Everyone has different wishes, needs and expectations. Politics is dynamic. It relies not only on the aspirations of one voter. It has to be widened by including the desires of all electorates.”
