MANILA: An illegal gambling den, that was also involved in online cockfighting or e-sabong games among others, was crippled in Parañaque city.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested eight people who they believe operated the den in the operation on Wednesday, Philstar.com portal reported.

In the arrest the eight suspects aged between 28 and 62 were nabbed in the premises at Barangay Santo Niño at around 9.40pm.

A team led by CIDG director Major General Eliseo Cruz launched the raid after receiving complaints of a house along an access road in the vicinity running gambling operations illegally, including online cockfighting.

CIDG National Capital Region field unit chief Colonel Randy Glenn Silvio alleged that among those arrested in the swoop were those with links to a criminal gang engaged in illegal gambling activities in southern Metro Manila.

Suspects were also taken into custody for placing bets on billiard games as the raiding party seized a LED television, a cell phone, six cue sticks, two sets of billiard balls and 2,460 pesos in cash. The CIDG is preparing charges of illegal gambling against the suspects.
